Canadian Ambassador Visits USU for Cooperation

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a visit from the Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia, Peter Mac Arthur, accompanied by Senior Trade Commissioner Michael Lazaruk and Trade Commissioner Julia Pangkey, which aimed to explore cooperation with USU. The visit also aimed to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Canada, particularly in education.

The three recieved a warm welcome from the USU Rector represented by USU Vice Rector IV, Prof Dr Ir Bustami Syam, MSME, University Secretary Dr dr. Farhat, MKed (ORL-HNS), Sp.THT-KL(K), Head of International Affairs Office Dr Esther Nababan, MSc, Head of Public Relations, Promotion and Protocol Office Elvi Sumanti, ST, MHum and Rector Expert Staff Dr Emerson Pascawira Sinulingga, ST, MSc, PhD.

During the meeting, Prof Dr Ir Bustami Syam, MSME, welcomed the arrival of the Canadian Ambassador, in line with USU's work program to improve its ranking in the international university ranking system and optimize cooperation with Canadian universities. Dr Esther Nababan, Head of USU's International Affairs Office, also highlighted potential areas of collaboration between Canada and Indonesia, such as the development of student and faculty quality as well as faculty exchange and joint degree programs.

During his visit, the Canadian Ambassador emphasized the importance of mastering technology, aligning with the principle of equal access for everyone. Peter MacArthur expressed his pride for the opportunity to interact with the people of North Sumatra, and aside USU, he has also visited several other universities in Indonesia, such as UIN Alauddin Makassar and UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh.
